Route and stops

Route 20 is an express service: it leaves the station and joins the motorway, without the dozens of stops of a local route. This is the official ATI itinerary in the Bayamón → Campanilla direction:

  • Bayamón Station — western terminus of the Tren Urbano
  • Expreso Río Hondo
  • Autopista José de Diego (PR-22)
  • Toa Baja Terminal, Bo. Campanilla

The return trip follows the same itinerary in reverse.

Itinerary as published by ATI. Check the official route map or the Transit app for real-time detail.

Schedule and frequency

Route 20 runs on weekdays only. These are the official ATI times:

Bayamón → Campanilla Monday to Friday 5:30 a.m. 7:00 p.m.
Campanilla → Bayamón Monday to Friday 5:00 a.m. 7:00 p.m.

⚠️ Route 20 does not run on Saturdays, Sundays or public holidays. It is designed for commuting, with the highest frequencies concentrated around the start and end of the working day.

AMA schedules may change and are not always met exactly. Check the actual arrival time in the official Transit app before you set off.

Fare

Right now travel is free because fare collection is suspended. When ATI reinstates fares, Route 20 will carry the Metro Urbano price, higher than that of an ordinary bus:

General fare
$2.00
Student
$1.00
Half fare
$1.00
Children aged 0-2
Free

Tarjeta Dorada holders travel free. Payment will be made on boarding, with exact change or with the travel card sold at Tren Urbano stations.

⚠️ Mind the price: $2.00 against the $0.75 of a conventional AMA route. The difference is because Metro Urbano routes (20 and 30) are intercity express services running on the motorway.

Tren Urbano connection

Route 20 starts at Bayamón Station, the western terminus of the Tren Urbano, which makes it the way into the train from Toa Baja:

  • 🚆Bayamón StationTrain terminus. Routes 2, 37, 91 and 92 also stop there
  • 🅿️Park & RideFree, guarded parking at Bayamón (480 spaces) and also at the Campanilla terminal

From Bayamón Station the train reaches Sagrado Corazón, the other terminus, in about 29 minutes, stopping at Centro Médico, Río Piedras and Hato Rey among others.

What Metro Urbano is

Metro Urbano is the network’s express service tier: buses that use the motorway to link municipalities in the metropolitan area with the Tren Urbano, skipping the intermediate stops of a local route.

There are only two Metro Urbano routes in the whole network:

  • Route 20 — Bayamón Station ⇄ Toa Baja (Campanilla), via PR-22
  • Route 30 — Cupey Station ⇄ Caguas, via PR-52

Both share the $2.00 fare when collection is active. The practical difference between them is the calendar: Route 30 runs every day, Sundays included, whereas Route 20 is limited to working days.
