Bayamón Station of the Urban Train is located on Betances Street near Expreso Río Hondo. It is the first terminal of the system (western end of line) and the ideal starting point to explore the San Juan metropolitan area. This station stands out for its extensive Park and Ride parking facilities, making it the best option for commuters traveling from nearby municipalities such as Toa Baja or Cataño toward the capital. How to Get from Parque Estrella Norte

An 8-minute walk: exit Parque Estrella Norte through the main entrance (Main Avenue), head south on Betances Street. Bayamón Station will be on your right just before Expreso Río Hondo. This route is ideal if you are attending outdoor activities, concerts or family events at the park and want to avoid traffic toward San Juan by using the Urban Train.

How to Get from Inter American University

A 12-minute walk from the Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico campus: head north on University Avenue until you reach Betances Street, turn left (west), and continue until you see the station elevated entrance. Recommended route for students and university staff who live in areas such as Hato Rey or Río Piedras and prefer to avoid vehicle traffic.

From the AMA buses

Bayamón Station has its own stop for five AMA bus routes:

  • Route 2: Bayamón ↔ Sagrado Corazón, running parallel to the Urban Train alignment.
  • Route 20: Bayamón ↔ Toa Baja (Campanilla Terminal). It is a Metro Urbano service, not a Bayamón city route.
  • Route 37: Cataño Ferry Terminal ↔ Bayamón.
  • Route 91: Bayamón ↔ Ave. Santa Juanita, via the UPR.
  • Route 92: Bayamón ↔ Ave. Magnolia.

The AMA removed the letters from its route names: today the 32 routes are identified by number only, so the old letter codes no longer exist. In addition, fare collection on the AMA and the Urban Train has been suspended since March 2024, so bus–train transfers are currently free.

By Private Vehicle (Park and Ride)

Bayamón Station offers a free Park and Ride car park with capacity for 480 vehicles (the largest on the line is Martínez Nadal, with 1,007). Located on the grounds adjacent to the north of the station (access via Betances Street). Free service for Urban Train users, with 24-hour surveillance and security cameras. Ideal for residents of Bayamón, Toa Baja, Cataño, and Vega Alta who work in San Juan and want to avoid PR-2 traffic. Note: Parking closing time coincides with the last train (approximately 11:30 PM every day).

Fares and Payment Methods

Use the AT card (Transportation Authority), valid for the entire system. Regular: free right now; $1.50 per trip with a 2-hour transfer once ATI resumes fare collection, suspended since March 2024. Reduced: $0.75 (students, ages 60-74, disability; 75 and over free). Children under 6: Free with an adult. Ticket machines available at access level. Accept cash and cards.
