The AMA Buses (Metropolitan Bus Authority) are the most important public transportation system in the San Juan metropolitan area. Also known as buses, they cover municipalities such as Bayamón, Guaynabo, Carolina, Trujillo Alto, Cataño, and Toa Baja.
If you are looking to get around the city economically and safely, this guide offers you all the updated information on routes, fares, schedules, and frequently asked questions from users.
🎫The Urban Train and buses are free right now
Since 1 March 2024, the Urban Train and the public bus network have been free of charge. You do not need to pay a fare to travel.
The Integrated Transit Authority (ATI) is working to reinstate fare collection, but no date has been confirmed yet. Staff training on the new equipment began in July 2026; a public education campaign will follow, and only then will the official announcement come.
When fare collection resumes, ATI has confirmed there will be no price increases: fares will be the same ones that applied before the suspension, listed on this page.
