This Puerto Rico Ferry route takes you from San Juan to Cataño in 12 minutes. Ferries depart from the Old San Juan pier and dock at the Cataño pier.

Passengers board a vessel known by several names: the Cataño Ferry, the Lancha de Cataño, or AquaExpreso.

The following fares apply to the San Juan – Cataño route.

Updated: from 1 January 2026, by PRITA order, the general Metro Service fare rose from $0.50 to $2.00 per trip.

• Infants (0-2 years): Free
• Seniors and persons with disabilities: reduced fare

⚠️ Check the exact age bands before you travel. The operator’s own fare page has not been updated since the January 2026 increase and still shows the old prices, so the reduced-fare brackets it lists are not reliable. Confirm them at the terminal ticket window or at puertoricoferry.com.

Worth knowing: free tickets for infants and older passengers are only sold at the terminal ticket window, on presentation of photo ID; they are not available online or in the app. There is also a limit of 5 tickets per transaction across all sales channels, and terminals only accept cash, debit or credit cards.

If you bought a ticket before 1 January 2026, it remains valid for up to a year from the purchase date and you do not have to pay the difference.

The Ceiba – Vieques route connects the Ceiba Ferry Terminal with the Isabel Segunda pier (Puerto Real) in Vieques. The trip takes approximately 40-45 minutes on the passenger ferry (up to 1 hour on the cargo ferry with passengers).

Vieques is famous for its bioluminescent bay —one of the brightest in the world—, its pristine beaches like Playa Sun Bay, and its National Wildlife Refuge. The ferry is the most affordable option to reach the island.

It is recommended to arrive at least 1 hour before departure and buy tickets online at puertoricoferry.com or through City Experiences, the operator’s official app, especially on weekends and peak season. Boarding closes 10 minutes before the scheduled departure.

The Ceiba – Vieques ferry operates with several daily departures in both directions. There are generally morning and afternoon sailings.

• Adults (13-59 years): $2.00
• Senior (60-74 years): $1.00
• Senior+ (75 years and over): Free

Tickets for babies and seniors over 75 must be purchased at the port ticket window with photo ID. There is a limit of 5 tickets per transaction.

Increase postponed: a significant rise in the non-resident fare was planned but has not taken effect. In May 2026 the government postponed it until 31 December 2026, at the request of the mayors of Vieques and Culebra, while a new fare study is carried out.

The Ceiba – Culebra route connects the Ceiba Ferry Terminal with the Dewey pier in Culebra. The trip takes approximately 1 hour on the passenger ferry (up to 1 hour 30 minutes on the cargo ferry).

Culebra is home to Playa Flamenco, considered one of the best beaches in the world, the Culebra National Wildlife Refuge, beaches like Tamarindo and Zoni, and coral reefs ideal for diving and snorkeling. The ferry is the most affordable way to reach the island.

It is recommended to book tickets in advance at puertoricoferry.com or through City Experiences, the operator’s official app. Parking at the Ceiba terminal runs at around $15 per 24 hours, paid on exit, with a free shuttle to the terminal gate; check the current price at the car park itself, as it has changed over time.

The Ceiba – Culebra ferry operates with several daily sailings. There are generally morning and midday departures with afternoon returns.

Note: Non-resident passengers must also pay a $2.00 environmental preservation fee per person, established by the Municipality of Culebra.
