📋 Step by Step Guide

1

Collect your luggage and head to the boarding level

After collecting your luggage at the arrivals level, go up to the second level (boarding level). AMA stops are located in front of terminals A, D, and E. Look for the yellow signs of "Bus Stop".

2

Identify your bus

To go directly to the Urban Train, look for the bus with the sign "40". This express route will drop you off at Piñero station and runs every day, roughly every 60 minutes. Alternatively you can take route 5 or route 53, although they will require a transfer.

3

Pay your fare

The service is currently free: fare collection has been suspended since March 2024 and no date has been set for its return. Once it resumes, payment will be made in exact cash when boarding, or with the travel card. Route 40 will cost $0.75, the same as routes 5 and 53.

💡 Tip: once fare collection resumes, the travel card will allow free transfers between bus and train for two hours.
4

Get off at your destination station

If you took route 40, get off at Piñero Station - the bus stops right in front of the Urban Train entrance. From there you can continue your journey to any of the 16 stations in the system. While the service remains free you do not need a ticket; once fare collection resumes, the train ride will cost $1.50.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Can I bring large suitcases on the AMA bus?

No. AMA buses do not have space for large luggage. Only hand luggage, backpacks, or small bags are allowed. If you travel with large suitcases, you must use Taxi, Uber, or Shuttle service.

How much does the complete airport-Urban Train journey cost?

Nothing right now: fare collection has been suspended since March 2024, so both the bus and the train are free. Once it resumes, route 40 will cost $0.75 and the train $1.50. With the travel card, the transfer between the two within the following two hours is included, so the full journey would come to $1.50.

Does the Urban Train reach the airport directly?

No. Currently the Urban Train does not have a station at the airport. The nearest station is Piñero, reached by the bus on route 40. In July 2026 the Federal Transit Administration awarded a $10 million grant to study, among other options, a direct rail connection to the airport. It is a 12–18 month study, with no construction dates.

What time does the first and last bus leave?

Route 40 runs every day. From Piñero the first departure is at 5:00 AM Monday to Friday and 6:00 AM on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays; the last one is at 8:00 PM. From the airport, the last departure is around 8:20 PM. If you arrive on a night flight, you will need a taxi or Uber.
